THE ARTIST
Carly's love for painting began over thirty years ago when a friend coerced her into taking an oil painting workshop! Being self taught has enabled her to paint beyond the expected. She says, "when you have no expectations, you have no fear - painting is about doing."
Creating larger works from smaller plein air paintings allows Carly to explore the more emotional content of a subject rather than the reality of it. She
says, "after painting the obvious, I can explore the subject with color, emotion and a more creative confidence."
Carly paints with oils, dry pastels, and oil pastels. She is the founder and Coordinator of the Oil Pastel Society, an online group that consists of more than a hundred members. She has published articles at WetCanvas.com and with the Daniel Smith Art Supply Company.
For the past three years, she was an artist-in-residence at the Tannery Row Artist Colony and remains an associate member of the group. Carly's work has won numerous awards. She teaches workshops in pastels and oils, preferring the outdoor setting, and is available for private lessons.
